Hershey originally established the Lancaster Caramel Company, but became interested in the chocolate making machinery he saw exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Hershey purchased the equipment for his company and soon began formulating his own chocolate. Czermanski was born in Krakow, Poland,
